Pond Creation
Ponds are important wildlife habitats that, support a variety of wetland plants and animals, including species like great-crested newt and medicinal leech (on the Romney Marsh). The Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership has created just over 50 ponds on the Romney Marsh through a combination of the District Level Licensing Scheme (which is ongoing today), and previously through the Kent Ponds Project.
If you would like to find more about pond creation or restoration, please do get in touch with us at: RMCP@dover.gov.uk, or call Steff on 07864 608825. Please note the funding for this scheme is aimed at improving habitat for great crested newt, so requires a minimum pond size of 150m2 (10m x 15m), as well as requiring sites to meet other suitability criteria. A before and after image of a pond we have previously created can be seen on the right of this page.
If you wish to build a garden pond, details are available on a wildlife gardening pages within the website.
